We are deeply saddened by the death of our great Queen Elizabeth II and it will take some time for us to come to terms with this loss. Her remarkable life of service and devotion to duty is both to be celebrated and an example to us all of a life well lived. Despite the loftiness of her position, the Queen was humble and lived a life of devotion to her people. She had a great understanding of just what was needed, putting those she met at ease and lighting up rooms with her radiant smile. It is well known that she loved and cared for horses, and horse-racing was one of her great passions. Her calmness and affinity with horses meant that they responded to her, recognising her goodness as a human being, while being unaware of her status. We are very fortunate to have had her as our Queen for so many years, linking our past to our present, and holding us together as a nation. May she rest in peace, her work finally over.
